Brocklesby Park Cricket Club

Summer is just about here and a new cricket season is upon us. Our club is always on the look out for new members and we can and do accommodate most ages and abilities if they play in the right spirit, so why not give us a chance?

Our website at has our fixture list and playing statistics. Please contact our match secretary, Richard Bedwell with any enquires via 07805 174696 or

The club currently plays in the East Lindsey Cricket League on Sunday afternoons and the West Wold Evening league on Tuesday nights. We are considering entering a team in the Grimsby Evening League in the near future, which would be played on Thursday nights.

Cricket in Brocklesby dates back to around 1850 and is linked to the arrival of the railway in the area. The first ground was near Brocklesby railway station on land owned by Thomas Marris of Ulceby Chase. The village club doesn't seem to make any great strides in the next few years and the newspapers reports dry up until in 1865, the young 3rd Earl of Yarborough helps establish the Brocklesby Hunt club. This is probably the origins of the present ground and pavilion. The hunt club was very strong and over the next 20 years managed to compete with the best clubs in the area before fading out around 1905.

As the hunt club waned, the Kirmington & Brocklesby club appear before dropping the Kirmington part of the name in 1901. That is the side the present team can trace a pretty solid lineage to and had the great-great-grandfather of a current player to boot. The club had to rebuild itself after both world wars, losing at least 7 players in WWI whilst winning 4 Military Crosses.

Past players include members of the Ransom, Havercroft and Frankish families that lived in Kirmington for generations and the club is always interested to hear stories of former players.
